At Devenish Primary School, these curriculum areas are delivered simultaneously through our Health program. Our Health program has School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) and Respectful Relationships (RR) at its core.
The importance of social and emotional learning at our school is evident in our Whole School Timetable and the structure of Health at Devenish P.S. On a Monday morning, as part of their morning routine, prior to school beginning (8.45 am) our students are introduced to the expectation of the week- taken from the Whole School Behaviour Expectations Matrix (refer to School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Handbook), and the Health and Personal Social Capability Scope and Sequence. Personal goals for the week are co-constructed in relation to the expectation of the week, these sit on the students’ desks to remind them of their goal for the week. On a Wednesday afternoon, we teach a Health lesson for 45 minutes. The content of our Health lesson comes from the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Resource, Catching on Early and explicit teaching of our behavioural expectations from our Whole School Behaviour Expectations Matrix. On a Friday afternoon, goals are revised, children write in their gratitude journals and our reinforcer system of ticket tracking is updated and children are able to spend points, and our PBS raffle is also drawn.
